As a specialist Sports College with ICT we aim to meet the needs of all students through placing the context, values, skills and pedagogy of our Specialist status subjects at the heart of teaching and learning across the whole school.  

 

Thorugh our specialisms we have created a culture and ethos that enables all our students to achieve to the best of their ability. Every student is encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities in order to raise aspirations, and we use the culture that is gained from success in sport to promote success and achievement in all subjects.  

Our specialist status enables us to: 

• extend the range of sport and ICT provision available to students which meets their needs and interests
• raise the standard of teaching and learning in the specialist subjects
• use the good practice from specialist status subjects to improve teaching and learning in other subject areas
• develop values of fair play, leadership, citizenship and responsibility
• develop the knowledge, self esteem and confidence of students to enable them to follow an active and healthy lifestyle
• provide access to facilities and education opportunities for all the whole community

As part of the Specialist Sports College status HGSC is also host to a very successful School Sport Partnership.  Forge School Sport Partnership is part of a national program hosted by the College which aspires to ensure all pupils between the ages of 5 -16 take part in 5 hours of high quality physical education and school sport each week, both within and outside of the curriculum.
