Careers and Post 16 progression
We have a fully qualified Independent Careers Adviser working in school on Wednesdays, should you feel you would like to speak with Alison she can be contacted on 0114 81052269. Alison Mignon
Pupils will be guided through the application process for post 16 progression during timetabled SMSC lessons.
All pupils will need to make applications through the Sheffield UCAS Progress Website, for which they will be given a user name and password. If pupils forget their password they will need to see Miss Powell who will re- set this for them.
UCAS Progress will also enable pupils to research a variety of courses and provision on offer. They can save courses they are interested in as a bookmark and it is through the revised bookmark that applications can then be made.
All 6th form applications and Sheffield College applications should be completed by 31st January. After this, pupils should see Miss Powell if they wish to amend or change their application. Please DO NOT withdraw an applications before speaking to Miss Powell.
We are actively engaged in the Heads Up (Heads Up Mentoring information sheet.docx) mentoring scheme that is run in conjunction with Sheffield University. The programme enables us to deliver a range of workshops to students in all year groups to actively raise their aspirations and awareness of Higher Education as well as aid their progression beyond Key Stage 4.
We embarked on the scheme in summer 2014; the workshops involve a significant number of students, the first one having been run with Year 8, to great effect.
We will continue to develop the partnership with the Heads Up mentoring scheme and they are eager to support us in our maintenance of outstanding Careers education, information and guidance (CEIAG). Heads Up mentoring staff can be consulted at our Post-16 evening held in the Autumn term.
More information on our CEIAG provision can be found in the CEIAG policy in the policies section of this site.
