Interview with USA Diving Team
On Tuesday 14th February, during the half term holiday, a group of 5 students met up with Mr Burrows at school to take part in an exciting event organised by Sheffield City Council. Over the previous weeks, Mr Burrows had been liaising with Ben Brailsford from Sheffield City Council about allowing the BBC School Reporters from Handsworth Grange to take part in the media day.
We arrived at Ponds Forge, signed in and then went to watch the divers train.

Once the divers had finished, we were allowed poolside We were all in our full school uniform and were absolutely boiling hot!!

We interviewed Ben from the City Council and Councillor Stephen Wilson about the importance of the Olympics to Sheffield. We then had an opportunity to speak to the divers and their coaches. They were all very kind to us and allowed us to ask a lot of questions. There were lots of other reporters there from the TV and radio, and we were able to watch them interviewing as well so that we could pick up lots of hints and tips.

We had a secret weapon though over all the other reporters though; as it was St Valentines day, we had bought some chocolate hearts for everyone that we interviewed – that made us the most popular reporters there!!

Towards the end of the session, some divers from Sheffield began their own training session and were coached by some of the USA Olympians. We even saw 2 pupils from Handsworth Grange there – Hayden L (Year 8) and Millie F (Year 9).

We would like to thank Mr Burrows and Mrs Clarke for coming with us on the trip and for coordinating the fantastic opportunity. We would also like to thank Ben Brailsford from the City Council for allowing us to take part, and finally a huge thanks to all the coaches and divers from the Olympic team who gave up their time for us.
